Joy is something we need to make space for in our lives for it to find us. We can’t keep the curtains drawn and still expect the light to shine through. Turning lights on to brighten the room with artificial light can help us see, but we won’t be nourished with vitamin D.
We easily get lost in artificial light, in things that bring the illusion of joy. Moments of amusement can be found through our phones, but it's not a substitute for the joy we can find out in the world. Our potential to feel joy gets cut off when we disconnect and distract ourselves too often. Fixated on screens, we close ourselves off from the light that waits for us behind the curtain. Don’t leave joy to chance, open up and let it shine in.
